So that the sound of the bell would not escape… The tale of Békés and the twine
Their predecessors might have been ashamed earlier, but the people of Békés today tell the following tale proudly, which has become a legend by now: The citizens have surrounded the city with a very strong twine, so that the people in the farmlands – who had not given any money for the bell – would not be able to hear it ringing. The not too bright “solution” is celebrated every year in the frames of the festival called “Madzagfalvi days” (Madzagfalvi napok), at the beginning of September.
